Barrrrrley

We all know Muska had a part in "Welcome To Hell" before he punched Ed Templeton at the premiere and they recalled the videos to take his part out...

BUT did you know Barley had a different edit in the OG/premiere version of the video? For some reason didn't like the edit and wanted to switch it up. He skated to Zeppelin and I believe he originally had first part. The part never saw the light of day except for the few who had the original video (i.e. Jamie Thomas).

Well Donny Barley put the part up on his website, donny barley.com as a hidden gem. Here's how to find it...

- go to donny barley.com

- click on the "media" section in the top right corner

- then click on the "B" of his Boston hat and enjoy!

It's pretty simple

I'd love to see the video how it was in the premiere, before all the changes... maybe one day they might release it like that... hopefully. Don't feel like typing anymore, wanna go skate now. Fuck off

Here's the edit we all know from the video. Still a fucking great part and Barley will always be one of my favorite skaters! Gotta go skate now!

Stinking Lizaveta

Stinking Lizaveta, just found out about these guys and Serpent Throne is opening up for them this Sunday @ Johnny Brenda's.

Don't really know how to describe them, but they rip, they're from Philly, they got a chick drummer, the bassist plays a stand-up electric bass and they've been around for a while now... how am I just finding out about them??

About halfway through the song, the guitarist hands his guitar to somebody in the crowd, and then the guy in the crowd goes into a solo... pretty fucking cool.

Killing it!

I was looking up info for some parks in PA when I came across a picture of Imperial skatepark. Now before I looked to see where this place was, I first went to youtube to see if I could get a good idea of what the park was really about... and this is the first video that came up

That dude and his homie are straight up killing that place! In fact, they're killing it so much, nobody else wants to even show up and they pretty much have that place to themselves.

After watching that, I was kinda hesitent about going, then it turns out the place is all the way over by Pittsburgh. So I probably won't be making there any time soon... unless somebody wants to make a trip out to Jaw Smifs and stop there along the way.

Got the sad news that JR Neves passed away the other day. It's always a bummer when you hear about the death of a skater, let alone one that grew up in your area. Condolences go out to all his friends and relatives!

Metal On Metal

Saw "Anvil : The Story of Anvil" the other night, and I think if you like metal, you need to see this! It's about the biggest band that never made it... but the thing is, they're fucking amazing! It's crazy how I've never heard of them and how many other people have never heard of them. I like to dig deep and try to find new old bands and music that that seemed to get lost over the years, but these guys have been hidden under a rock for the past 25 years.

Easter Sunday

Usually on holidays, security is minimal... but not last sunday. Cop sitting at in an unmarked pickup at Love, City Hall just got some brand new shiny knobs all over it (and a cop still showed up), got the boot from Franklin square blue pipes and the list goes on. So we ended up at the 5th street wallrides because everything else sucked.

The Green Manalishi

This was based upon a recurrent dream Peter Green had in which he woke up unable to move while messages about money formed in his brain. Green recalls: "When I woke up I found I was writing this song. Next day I went out to the park and the words started coming. The Green Manalishi is the wad of notes, the devil is green and he was after me. Fear, inspiration is what it was, but it was that tribal ancient Hebrew thing I was going for. Ancient music." More recently he admitted, "It took me two years to recover from that song. When I listened to it afterwards there was so much power there... it exhausted me."

During the time he wrote this, he was struggling with LSD and schizophrenia. This is the last song he recorded with Fleetwood Mac

the guitar solo has a very haunting sound

"Now, when the day goes to sleep and the full moon looks
The night is so black that the darkness cooks
Dont you come creepin around - makin me do things I dont want to

Cant believe that you need my love so bad
Come sneakin around tryin to drive me mad
Bustin in on my dreams - making me see things I dont wanna see

Break:

Cause you're the green manalishi with the two prong crown
All my tryin is up - all your bringin is down
Just taking my love then slippin away
Leavin me here just tryin to keep from following you"

The way Jeremy Spencer describes the recording session is great. I would've loved to have been there

If you ever have some free time, watch the whole Peter Green Story. You can pretty much put him up there with Syd Barrett and Roky Erickson

Serpent Throne

Just found out about these guys and they're fucking awesome! What's even better is that they're from Philly, so I'm sure I'll be able to catch a bunch of shows.

They were actually one of the bands that played with Pentagram down in Baltimore recently. I ended up not going down to that show due to money issues and I'm pretty pissed I missed it now that it's done and over... I'm also pissed because I just found out they just played at Johnny Brenda's with Flower Travellin' Band, which some consider the "Japanese Black Sabbath". Check'em out... but their stuff is hard to find.

Anyways, here's what Serpent Throne had to say about themselves

"Picture this:

Say there was a heavy rock festival in like '72 where Black Sabbath, Wishbone Ash, the Scorpions, Budgie, and like Cactus are supposed to play, but then, due to a series of plane crashes and natural disasters, only 1 surviving member from each band can make it. In order to calm down the crowd of heavy rockers, Iommi grabs a couple dudes from the other bands and puts together an emergency band. And then Uli Roth says, "We don't need a singer because he'll just get in the way of the riffs." I think that's what Serpent Throne is aiming for. Whether we get there or not is another story, but we'll drink some beer and rip some guitar harmonies along the way."

You should support these guys! They're keeping good music alive!!

Fuck yeah!

I believe in karma...

and these fuckers will get theirs!!

Got this off of Skate Daily today

"Late Friday night in Portland, Oregon, skateboarders Clay Hunt and Taylor Appelo (Devin Appelo’s brother) were both attacked by four men as they waited at a Max stop on their way home. Both were attacked for no reason and beat senselessly with their own skateboards. The four attackers bragged about being drunk and told Clay and Taylor “That they were in the wrong place at the wrong time!”
Taylor Appelo was beaten so badly that his jaw has been broken in three different spots and wired shut. He also suffered a broken rib and the loss of five of his teeth.
Sadly, Taylor is 20 years old and doesn’t have medical insurance. A charity fund for Taylor Appelo will soon be in place, more information will be available shortly."

News video here

That shit is fucked! Fucking drunken jocks, that shit will come back to get them and I hope it comes back ten fold.

DL Coalition

The DL list seems like it's gaining some members. We're gonna try and plan a "take over" by doing absolutely nothing. It's not hard to be a part of the coalition, all you really have to do is have an injury and then do some of the following:

-drink beers
-play some pool
-check every skate website you can think of, everyday, 5 times a day
-go to work (those that are able to) and then think about what you could be doing on a skateboard
-play Wii bowling and think you are really that good in real life
-sleep
-watch the same reality shows on VH1 over and over again
-do a half ass job of trying to clean up your apartment
-think about productive things you could possibly be doing to pass the time... but don't do them
-think about skating 98% of the day
-pretty much anything that DOESN'T involve actually skating

The DL Coalition consist of:
-Bill
-Me
-Gunner
-Jesse aka J.Clay
-Chris
-Lemmy, my dog. He did something to his paw running after a ball in the park last night

It's Friday the 13th and Chris is actually having surgery today for his hernia. Good luck buddy! Hope you heal up fast for your birthday party tomorrow.

You Might Not Have Known...

Fleetwood Mac was a great blues band before the mainstream success of the "Stevie Nicks era"

I think their early stuff with Peter Green is really fucking good, but as time went on, he left the band due to mental illness (scizophrania caused from LSD) and they started getting out of the blues, expanding into other areas and into the sound that most people know them for today.

"Black Magic Woman" (wasn't a hit until Santana covered it)
